Self-Test Emergency Lighting

Under legislation, occupants of non-domestic buildings must always be safe and there must be a clear escape route in place in case of emergency. Therefore, non-domestic buildings e.g. offices, shops, airports, are required to install emergency lighting to help protect occupants if an emergency occurs. Building owners and responsible persons must be able to prove that their emergency lighting systems work correctly and are maintained in full working order. This requires regular testing daily, monthly and annually. To carry out inspection of an entire installation for operation performance can be very expensive and labour intensive.

Self-test fittings have technology which enables them to carry out their own emergency lighting test. This greatly reduces the burden of testing emergency lights. The self-testing complies with the regulations BS5266. The fittings will perform all mandatory testing themselves and then show results with an LED indicator on the fitting. The responsible person just needs to look at the fitting and check the status of the LED Indicator to log the results. This is a lot less time consuming to check and it also means that the maintenance staff only need to attend the lights with reported faults.

ROBUS highly recommend upgrading to self-test emergency fittings. While the initial cost can be more expensive than manual emergency fittings, over-time you will save dramatically when it comes to maintenance costs. By upgrading to self-test, you will comply with the regulations at a fraction of the cost and time.

The ROBUS REX Self-Test Version

The ROBUS REX Exit Box is now available in a self-test version. The ROBUS REX Self-Test version has a manual test button on the side of the fitting which will initiate a functional emergency test outside the scheduled automated tests. It also has LiFePo4 batteries which provide up to 2000 charge cycles compared to NiCd 500 and contain no cadmium so are environmentally friendly and use 60% less energy once charged.

The ROBUS REX Exit Box is specifically designed for an LED light source, rather than a traditional bulky exit box adapted for LED, resulting in this attractive and slim emergency fitting. It has a long-rated LED life and uses the latest energy efficient LED’s to contribute to substantial energy savings which reduces the carbon footprint of our buildings.
